Arua, Uganda

Building from the lessons and experiences from the previous two phases, UN-Habitat/GLTN and SDI Uganda partners agreed to implement yet another phase of scaling up the use of STDM by the federation in nine additional municipalities through establishment of 5 learning centres in Masaka, Entebbe, Tororo, Mbale and Arua. These four learning centres will serve as anchors of activity and learning in the 14 municipalities participating in the World Bank’s 6-year government program – Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructural development (USMID). It is critical that the urban poor engage this infrastructure upgrading project as large-scale infrastructural upgrading cannot be divorced from issues of land tenure. USMID is an extension of TSUPU in which 14 municipalities are being supported by the World Bank and Cities Alliance to address the infrastructural challenges.
